Dr. William Boothe

Off Label Use - Use of a technology for a procedure which is legal but not specifically approved by the FDA. For example, LASIK was performed using an excimer laser when the FDA had approved use of that laser for PRK but not yet for LASIK. A medical doctor is legally able to use a certain instrument or technology for any given procedure, whether or not the FDA has specifically approved that use. Manufacturers of excimer lasers have sought FDA approval of their laser for LASIK, but that is for marketing reasons and is unrelated to the legality of using it that way.( DR WILLIAM BOOTHE - LASIK)

Dr William Boothe = Styes are bacterial infections that lead to the obstruction of oil producing glands around the eyelashes or eyelids. Styes are seen as small bumps on the eyelids. Styes (also called "sty") are usually harmless and will go away after several days on their own as your body fights the infection. There are some cases where surgical draining of the stye or the application of antibiotic drops may be required. To prevent a stye in the eye; always washing hands before touching the eyes and keeping good eye hygiene.

Pupil - The circular black opening in the center of the iris. It allows light to enter the eye. In dim lighting conditions, it opens wider and is controlled by tiny iris muscles. Testing the pupil dilation is often part of a neurological evaluation.

Undercorrection is a complication of refractive surgery where the expected amount of correction is less than desired and often occurs where healing regresses more vigorously than predicted.

Keratomileusis - (KE-ruh-toe-my-LOO-suhs) A name for the way a LASIK procedure is done. Before the excimer laser made LASIK possible, this procedure was done by totally removing the small corneal flap, rather than just partially, and then freezing it, reshaping it, and replacing it on the cornea.( DR BOOTHE - LASIK EYE)

Dr. William Boothe = ICL (Implantable Contact Lens) - The name used for the STAAR Myopic Visian ICL™, created by the STAAR Surgical Company and approved by the FDA in 2005 for treating myopia. It’s a refractive lens for use in a phakic eye (i.e., an eye that has its natural crystalline lens intact) and is implanted in the posterior chamber of the eye.

Although eye floaters are usually harmless, there are treatments for them. People who have a growth in number or size of eye floaters or see flashing lights should be examined by an eye care professional to see if there are more complicated issues. People who have had eye surgery , are diabetic, or are very near-sighted are more prone to complications and should have a check up by an eye care professional. For the extreme case that surgery is wanted or needed to remove eye floaters, there are laser treatments to remove eye floaters.

Radial Keratotomy or RK and Photorefractive Keratectomy or PRK are other refractive surgeries used to reshape the cornea. In RK, a very sharp knife is used to cut slits in the cornea changing its shape. PRK was the first surgical procedure developed to reshape the cornea, by sculpting, using a laser. Later, LASIK was developed. The same type of laser is used for LASIK and PRK. Often the exact same laser is used for the two types of surgery.

Diabetes Type 2 - The more common of the two types of Diabetes, where the pancreas can produce insulin, but not enough. Insulin may or may not have to be injected for the person to convert sugars into energy. Sometimes Type 2 can be well-managed by sticking to the right diet and exercise routines( LASIK EYE - Dr William Boothe)

Ghosting - A name for double vision. The eye sees objects in duplicate, with the second image fainter than the main one.

Corneal swelling: Corneal swelling, or edema, is a condition in which fluid accumulates in the cornea. The edema causes visual disturbances such as halos or starbursts around lights. Reduced vision may or may not occur. Corneal swelling can arise as a complication of contact lenses, surgical damage to the cornea, or an inherited defect. Hyperosmotic drops or ointment can be used to treat corneal swelling, but additional treatment by a physician may be necessary.( DR WILLIAM BOOTHE - LASIK SURGERY)

Dr William A. Boothe = In extreme cases, where ideal technique was not followed and before key advances, some people could suffer rather debilitating symptoms including serious loss of contrast sensitivity in poor lighting situationsOver time, most of the attention has been focused on spherical aberration. LASIK and PRK tend to induce spherical aberration, because of the tendency of the laser to undercorrect as it moves outward from the center of the treatment zone. This is really a significant issue for only large corrections.

Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP) - Hereditary degeneration of the retina. It usually leads to legal blindness by progressively reducing peripheral vision. There are three main forms:

Basement Membrane - A microscopically thin layer of tissue below the epithelial cells (surface cells) of the cornea, connecting those cells to the stroma, which is the middle layer of cells in the cornea

LASIK - (LAY-sik) A refractive surgical procedure for correcting myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism. An excimer laser is used to recontour the cornea, making it steeper to correct hyperopia, flatter to correct myopia, and more evenly curved to correct astigmatism. The laser works on the stroma, the corneal layer below the surface cells (epithelium), and access to the stroma is gained by creating a tiny flap on the corneal surface and folding it back. After treatment it’s replaced and heals by itself.( DR. WILLIAM BOOTHE)

Diabetes Type 1 - Insulin-dependent diabetes, also known as juvenile diabetes because it’s often diagnosed in young people. The pancreas, which normally would produce insulin, is unable to do so, so insulin must be injected so the patient can convert sugars and starch into energy. A person with Diabetes, Type 1 or 2, is susceptible to vision problems because the tiny blood vessels in the eyes weaken and start to leak, damaging the retina. See Diabetic Retinopathy

Refractive surgery: A procedure, such as LASIK, that corrects vision and reduces or eliminates the need to wear glasses or contact lenses.( LASIK EYE - Dr William Boothe)

DR WILLIAM BOOTHE - LASIK = Preventing the contamination of pink eye is the best method for both those infected and those nearby infected people. Washing your hands frequently will support the removal of many possible allergic agents or bacteria from getting into the eyes. Not sharing towels, washcloths, napkins, and other wiping items will minimize pink eye outbreaks. Households exposed to pink eye, particularly with kids, should disinfect commonly touched areas like doorknobs, television remotes, computer keyboards, and others. Contact lens wearers should discontinue use and even possibly replace the lenses if infected when wearing them. Ask a doctor if unsure about infected lenses. Another good countermeasure is to avoid sharing other eye touching items, chiefly with someone who is diagnosed with pink eye. These items include eye drops, mascara, goggles, sunglasses, and tons of other products. Prevention is the best way of preventing the development and spread of conjunctivitis and for parents, this means explaining and showing kids how to be careful.

It seems the Federal Death Administration (FDA) will only allow what is most harmful to the most people!!
